Accommodation

The Aquastar 38 layout offers up to six berths in two cabins, and approximately 6'2" headroom.

FORWARD CABIN  -  Offest double berth with infill, seat, hanging locker, storage lockers, and opening hatch to deck. 

HEADS COMPARTMENT  -  Separate heads to starboard with electric flush marine toilet, holding tank, washbasin, shower with pump out, extractor fan, mirror, and storage.

GALLEY AND LOWER DINETTE  -  Large U-shaped galley to starboard with ample work surfaces, equipped with a Force 10 3-burner gas cooker with grill and oven, Dometic refrigerator (new 2020), twin stainless steel sinks, and excellent storage space. The dinette opposite to port has a table that drops to form a double berth when required. Steps lead up to the main saloon.

WHEELHOUSE SALOON  -  Navigator's position to port with large chart area and storage, and a helm position to starboard with full engine instrumentation and comprehensive suite of navigation equipment. Spacious settee to port with coffee table, large range of storage cupboards to starboard, and sliding door to aft cockpit.

GENERAL EQUIPMENT  -  Mikuni diesel-fired warm air heating system with outlets to all cabins. Hot and cold pressurised water system via calorifier with immersion coil. Light blue velour upholstery, dark blue fitted carpets, and cream curtains throughout. Bespoke premium quality teak interior fit-out. 

EXTERNAL SPACE  -  Large aft cockpit with seating, removable cockpit cushions, storage lockers, lazarette, and a walk-through transom to the swimming platform. Steps up to the flybridge which has a duplicate set of controls and navigation equipment. Good access to wide side decks with high rails and coachroof mounted grabrails for safe transit on deck.

Mechanical Systems

Located under the wheelhouse sole, twin Cummins 6BTA 300hp six-cylinder turbo diesel engines. Freshwater cooled via heat exchangers. Twin shaft drives via gearboxes to 4-bladed propellers with rope cutters. Twin stainless steel tanks provide approx. 1363 litre fuel capacity. Hydraflex dual station hydraulic steering. Vetus bow thruster with controls at both helms. Instatrim adjustable trim tabs.

The current owner has professionally maintained the engines to a high standard, last serviced in February 2021 and lightly used since. Current engine hours are approx. 503hrs at January 2022 (will increase gradually as still in use). The Cummins 6BTA is considered by many to be the finest marine diesel engine in it's class, offering smooth and efficient power, easy maintenance, and excellent reliability.

Electrical Systems

7 x Heavy duty 12v batteries (4 x domestic, 2 x engine new 2019, and dedicated bow thruster) charged via engine alternators. Shore power system with ring mains, immersion coil for water heating, and Mastervolt battery charger. Mastervolt Whisper 3.5KVA generator with remote start (run for 23hrs since new). Mastervolt battery monitoring system. Full cabin lighting.

Construction

Aquastar Ocean Star 38 fitted out by Exbow Marine Ltd in 2003/4 on Aqua-Star mouldings from 1989. Blue GRP semi-displacement hull (copper-coated 2019) with long keel profile, varnished teak chine rails, and substantial rubbing strakes. White GRP superstructure with flybridge and teak trim. Teak laid aft cockpit, flybridge, and decks. Dual helm hydraulic wheel steering to two spade rudders.

'Westwacker' has a unique and interesting history, originally being sold by Aquastar to her first owner partially completed, then comprehensively fitted out by Exbow Marine Ltd for her second owner to his exacting requirements in 2003/4. This has resulted in an excellent quality fit out with many upgraded systems above the original build specification, including a Mastervolt electrical system with genset. CE and Recreational Craft Directive certified.
