Accommodation

Access to the cabin is via the companionway from the cockpit. Below decks, the main saloon is finished in varnished timber and repainted in 2026. Forward, V-berth seating converts into comfortable sleeping accommodation for two, with ample stowage provided beneath the berths and within various lockers throughout the cabin. A compact galley is fitted with a single burner cooker, providing practical facilities for preparing light meals and refreshments whilst cruising. The separate heads compartment is equipped with a manual marine toilet, shower facilities, and hot and cold water. Hot water is supplied via the engine or immersion heater. A new freshwater tank was fitted in 2022. The cabin benefits from large windows and a classic wraparound windscreen, allowing plenty of natural light below decks, while curtains throughout provide privacy when required.

Mechanical Systems

Powered by twin Mermaid Mistral 185hp turbocharged diesel engines. Factory reconditioned engine and gearbox installed in approximately 2006. The engines feature indirect cooling and are coupled to shaft drives, providing dependable and straightforward propulsion. Fuel is supplied from a single steel fuel tank with a capacity of approximately 70 gallons, offering a practical cruising range. The vessel cruises comfortably at around 23 knots, with an average fuel consumption of approximately 10 gallons per hour, making her well suited to coastal cruising and day passages. Engine controls are operated via dual lever controls, allowing precise handling and manoeuvrability. Power is transmitted through the shafts to a pair of traditional three blade bronze propellers. Benefiting from a significant mechanical refit in 2024, both Mermaid Mistral engines were rebuilt with new bearings, pistons, rings, liners, injectors, valves, turbochargers, and engine mounts. New shafts, cutlass bearings, and shaft seals were also fitted, with the bronze propellers polished and balanced. This extensive programme of works leaves the vessel's propulsion system in excellent condition, providing confidence-inspiring reliability and performance.

Electrical Systems

The 12-volt system comprises two domestic batteries and one separate 12-volt engine cranking battery. Charging is provided primarily by the engine-driven alternator during operation, supplemented by a solar panel installation. Shore power connectivity allows the vessel to be connected to a marina supply, providing 240-volt AC power to the onboard ring main system for domestic appliances and battery charging equipment. The 240-volt system also supplies an immersion heater, enabling hot water production when connected to shore power. This arrangement offers a practical balance of off-grid capability and shoreside convenience, making the vessel well suited to both cruising and extended stays aboard.

Designed by Alan Burnard of Fairey Marine, the Huntsman 28 has sweeping sheer lines, a low coach roof, varnished timber detailing and expansive teak decks creating an elegant appearance, while the practical deck layout makes her equally suited to entertaining, coastal cruising and classic boat events. Externally, the boat offers wide side decks for safe and easy movement forward, complemented by laid teak decking. The spacious aft cockpit provides an excellent social area with ample space for seating and relaxing, while the foredeck offers useful working space for anchoring and mooring operations. Built in 1962, this example features Fairey Marine's renowned hot-laminated Agba hull construction, an innovative technique that produces a hull that is lightweight, exceptionally strong and highly resistant to working under load. The hull is supported by a wooden frame structure, while the wooden decks are finished with traditional laid teak, maintaining the authentic character and craftsmanship for which Fairey boats are so highly regarded.

The vessel has benefited from ongoing maintenance and cosmetic improvements, including a hull repaint in 2025. Below the waterline, new anodes were fitted in 2026 and the hull was freshly antifouled in 2026, helping to ensure she is ready for immediate use. Combining iconic Fairey construction, classic teak-decked aesthetics and recent maintenance works, this Huntsman 28 represents a well-presented example of one of Britain's most celebrated motor yacht designs.
