The Westerly Berwick is a proven, spacious family sailing cruiser. With a long waterline length, they give a good turn of speed, together with good stability. Orissa is the ketch rigged version and has been well upgraded and restored in her current tenure, including recent sails, standing rigging, electronics and full upgrade on the 12 volt system, plus much more! p>

Accommodation

The accommodation offers up to 6 berths in two cabins. Up forward there is a large V-berth, with an infill. Stowage above and below. Opening hatch to foredeck. Hanging locker to starboard. The heads compartment is to port with a manual marine toilet, washbasin and shower with a pressurised hot & cold water supply and storage under. Opposite to starboard, there is a large hanging locker. Moving aft into the saloon, there is a L shaped with dinette to port, with storage under and outboard. Table drops down to make a double berth. The galley is opposite to starboard, with a Flavel Vanessa two burner cooker with grill and oven. Stainless steel sink with a pressurised hot & cold water supply. Cool box. Generous storage under and above. There are quarter berths to port and starboard with a sliding chart table over to starboard. Blue upholstery throughout. CD/Radio with speakers.

Mechanical Systems

Located under the companionway is the Watermota Seapanther marine diesel engine, fitted in 1973. 28hp, three cylinders, naturally aspirated. Freshwater cooled via a heat exchanger. Shaft drive to 3 blade prop fixed prop with rope cutter. 77 litre stainless steel fuel tank. This engine has been very well maintained and the following work as taken place:

  • New Alternator & starter motor 2024
  • Lift pump rebuilt 2024
  • High pressure fuel pump rebuilt, new fuel lines and new impeller 2023
  • Compression tests on heads with all registering at least 75% in 2022
  • Heat exchanger fully cleaned with new pipes in 2021

    Construction

    Built in 1973 by Westerly Yachts to a Laurent Giles design. White GRP hull with rubbing strakes. GRP deck and painted non-slip finish. Wheel steering to a skeg-hung rudder. Twin cast iron bilge keels. Coachroof windows re bedded in 2023. Hull stripped and epoxied below the waterline in 2022. Survey available.
