The Oyster 37 is a handsome and well-regarded British cruising yacht, combining classic 1970s styling with the solid construction and capable sailing characteristics for which the Oyster name has become known. Built in 1978, she offers the reassuring feel of a substantial offshore cruiser while remaining a practical and enjoyable yacht for coastal sailing and extended cruising. Her attractive lines, generous proportions and purposeful deck layout give her plenty of traditional character, while below decks she provides comfortable accommodation and a proper cruising interior suited to spending extended periods aboard. With her combination of pedigree, practicality and timeless appeal, the Oyster 37 represents an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a characterful classic yacht with genuine cruising credentials. Designed by Holman & Pye to rate as a one tonner under the IOR, the 37 is a racer/cruiser and is particularly fast upwind where she is still capable of embarrassing more modern designs. Good cabin space, combined with classic IOR good looks, makes the Oyster 37 an attractive yacht. Forty were launched between 1978 and 1980. A great opportunity to acquire an Oyster 27 at an attractive price, with scope to improve and personalise her to your own requirements. Some remedial work and general updating are required, making her an ideal project for a hands-on owner.

Accommodation

Starting forward, the forecabin provides a comfortable sleeping area with a traditional V-berth arrangement, together with useful storage for clothing and personal belongings. An opening deck hatch above provides natural light and ventilation. Continuing aft, the heads compartment provides the boat's toilet and washing facilities, including electric marine toilet, shower, basin. Pressurised water is provided by a 118 litre tank and heated by the engine. The location allows convenient access from the main accommodation while underway. Moving aft, the accommodation opens into the main saloon, which forms the heart of the interior. Generous seating is arranged around a central saloon table. The settee berths also provide additional sleeping accommodation when required, with lockers, shelving and stowage incorporated throughout the saloon for extended cruising. The galley is positioned conveniently close to the companionway and saloon, allowing it to remain connected with the main accommodation while providing a practical working area at sea. The galley includes a cooker (with 2 burners, grill and oven), cool box and basin. Opposite or adjacent to the galley is the navigation area, with a dedicated chart table and seating for the navigator. Aft of the chart table, further sleeping and storage space makes full use of the area beneath and around the cockpit, providing additional berths for family or guests and completing a practical interior designed around comfortable cruising. Throughout, the Oyster 37 combines the solid, traditional character expected of a late-1970s cruising yacht with a practical offshore-oriented layout, offering good accommodation, plentiful storage and a comfortable environment for both coastal cruising and longer passages.
