This 1981 Alajuela 48 is a rare opportunity to own one of the finest examples of classic offshore craftsmanship. Designed by Raymond Richards and built to the highest standards by Alajuela Yacht Corp, this vessel combines traditional lines, seaworthy performance, and exceptional liveaboard comfort — a true ocean going passage maker. The Alajuela 48 was conceived as a heavy-displacement, full-keel, ketch rigged cutter and a canoe stern, designed to deliver safety, balance, and an easy motion at sea. Recent upgrades include: New rigging - 2024, New running rigging - 2022, New Beta Marine 85hp engine 2020. Flying Whale was built by Alajuela Yacht Corp., USA to Lloyds standards. She is an ocean cruiser built with hand-laid fiberglass, a fin keel and skeg-hung/partial-skeg rudder, heavy lead ballast and traditional teak trim. Last anti-fouled August 2025. Decks are painted and need re-painting.
