The LM27 is a popular choice for those looking to escape poor weather yet still enjoy helming on the tiller from the large aft cockpit. With over 1,500 built, the LM27 is probably the most successful motor sailer ever. The design was altered in the mid-1980's and became the LM28. Molly Brown has been well-maintained and is in unusually good condition for her age. She is easily one of the best of her kind that we have seen in recent years!

Accommodation

The accommodation offers up to six berths in two cabins with approx. 6' max. headroom in the saloon and 6'3" headroom in the wheelhouse. V-berth forward with infill, hatch to foredeck and stowage under berths. Concertina style door between forward cabin and saloon. In the saloon there are two settee berths which both convert to doubles, fixed table with drop leaves and further storage. Separate heads compartment to port with Jabsco marine toilet and slide-out washbasin with a generous hanging locker opposite to starboard. Steps up to the semi-enclosed wheelhouse with helm to starboard and galley opposite consisting of a fixed Spinflo two-burner gas cooker with grill, stainless steel sink, 12v fridge, microwave and storage. Folding covers for cooker and sink. The wheelhouse also has generous stowage space beneath the wheelhouse sole. Full cockpit cover. Wheel steering in the wheelhouse with tiller steering in cockpit. Teak and holly strip sole boards to cockpit and wheelhouse. Pressurised cold water supply to galley sink and wash basin. Eberspacher diesel fired central heating. Carpets and curtains (new 2024).

Mechanical Systems

1981 Bukh DV20, 20hp, twin cylinder diesel engine located under the cockpit. Seawater cooled. Single lever controls in both wheelhouse and cockpit. Electric start. Shaft drive to fixed pitch three-blade propeller. Full engine instrumentation. The engine has been well maintained with new filters annually (last serviced October 2025), new water pump in 2023 with a new impeller 2025. New stern seal 2022.

Electrical Systems

Three Yuasa 12v, 100ah batteries (new June 2024) charged via engine alternator. 240v shore power system with ring main and Victron Blue Smart battery charger (new 2022). Solar panel on wheelhouse roof. Victron charge regulator. Electrical distribution panels. Full cabin lighting (new 2023). USB ports fitted 2024.

Sails and Spars

Masthead rigged sloop. Silver anodised aluminium deck stepped, single spreader mast and boom by John Mast. Stainless steel standing rigging (new June 2024 including new halyard sheaves). Terylene running rigging (most new 2023). Easyreef behind the mast furling system (new 1997 with new boom track 2024). Colnbrook headsail furling system with headsail furling winch. 2 x Meissner 8 sheet winches. Mast mounted halyard winch. Harken 6 mainsail furling winch.

Construction

LM27 built in 1981 by LM Glassfiber A/S to a Palle Mortensen design. White GRP hull with blue styling stripe. White GRP superstructure and decks with moulded non-slip surfaces. Long keel with encapsulated ballast. Wheel and tiller steering to keel hung rudder. Rudder removed & refitted with new bracket 2022. Aft self-draining cockpit. Semi-enclosed wheelhouse with wooden bulkhead and double doors opening to cockpit. Opening hatch above helm position.
