Morveren is a beautifully presented Barbican 33 MkII, designed by Maurice Griffiths as an “easily handled fast cruising yacht of shallow draught”. Her long keel, lifting centreplate and relatively modest rig might suggest a traditional, steady cruiser, but her sailing performance can be surprisingly lively. Her current owner reports being particularly impressed by her handling and passage speed when sailing her single-handed to Levington, including through less favourable weather, where she looked after her skipper well and frequently overhauled other yachts. Equally appealing is her ability to explore shallow estuaries, creeks and anchorages where many cruising yachts are restricted by their draught, with the centreplate raised reducing her draught to approximately 1.22m (4ft). Morveren has clearly been well cared for during both current and previous ownerships and combines handsome, classic lines with the advantages of a relatively modern GRP yacht and a manageable amount of external timberwork.

Accommodation
A warm and comfortable interior finished in traditional varnished teak joinery with teak and holly sole boards throughout. Morveren offers up to 6 berths across the forward cabin, saloon and pilot berth. Forward is a generous V-berth cabin with infill to create a double berth. Stowage beneath and lockers. Opening deckhatch and opening portlights provide good ventilation and a lot of light. Aft to port is the heads compartment, fitted with Jabsco marine toilet, stainless steel basin and shower facility. Innovative door system allows for more freedom of movement and privacy. Opposite to starboard is a hanging locker. Moving aft into the saloon finds settee berths either side of a folding dining table. The port settee converts to a small double, with the starboard side offering a slightly longer single berth. Generous locker and shelf storage throughout. Opening deck hatch, and multiple portlights create a bright living space. Traditional forward-facing chart table is found to port, with a pilot’s quarter-berth extending aft behind it. Opposite to starboard is an L-shaped galley with extendable work surface. Equipped with a Plastimo Neptune 2500 two-burner gas cooker with oven and grill, stainless steel sink, Isotherm 12v fridge and ample storage. Pressurised water throughout, hot water via calorifier – heated via the engine or immersion heater. Cabin heating provided by Eberspächer diesel heater.

Construction
Built in 1992, Hull No. 45, the Barbican 33 MkII is a long-keeled GRP cruising yacht designed by Maurice Griffiths. Encapsulated ballast with a lifting centreplate and a keel-hung rudder. During construction the original owner specified additional laminate in the hull, creating an already robust design of exceptional strength. The Mark II version retained Griffiths' proven concept of a moderate displacement long-keeler capable of offshore passages whilst still being able to access shallow waters through the centreplate arrangement. The centreplate enables the draught to vary between approximately 1.22m and 1.93m.
