The J-105, with her retractable bow sprit, has proved to be ideal for both shorthanded and fully crewed racing in inshore and offshore competitions. The simple layout also lends itself to fast cruising. 'Slingshot? has been successfully raced locally on the East Coast by her current owners, including winning the prestigious Burnham Town Cup in 2025 with her 2025 IRC rating of 0.996. She benefits from recent racing sails and electronics upgrades. In the past she has been one of the most successful J-105's around with a long list of honours both sailing double-handed and fully crewed. RORC Yacht of the Year in 2006, 2008 RORC Double-handed series and 4th overall against all the IRC fully crewed boats. Overall winner Yachting Monthly Torbay Triangle Race in 2012.

Accommodation
The accommodation offers up to five berths in two cabins, Open plan saloon. Teak and holly style synthetic high-wear cabin sole with epoxy-sealed end grain. Chart table to starboard against main bulkhead. Galley to port with stainless steel sink and Eno two burner gas hob and storage cupboard. Twin forecabin berth, two settee berths. Quarter berth to port. Bunk cushions. Toilet compartment with Jabsco marine toilet (new 2020), wash hand basin and hanging locker.
Mechanical Systems
Located below the companionway and with good access. Volvo Penta MD2020, 3-cylinder, 19hp diesel engine. Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger. Single lever controls with electric start. Shaft drive to two-blade Gori folding propeller (new 2021). The engine appears to be in very good cosmetic condition and has proven reliable under current ownership, last full service was carried out in 2025. New engine mounts and cutless bearing 2023.
Electrical Systems
2 x 12v domestic batteries (new 2024) charged via engine alternator plus engine start battery, charged via engine alternator & 2 x solar panels. Victron dual battery monitor (new 2023). Shore power system with ring main. Electrical distribution panel. Full interior lighting.
Sails and Spars
Fractionally rigged sloop. Sparcraft anodised aluminium double spreader, keel stepped mast (new 2014) with double airfoil spreaders and boom. Dyform standing rigging (new 2014). Harken MkIV headsail furling system (new 2014). Navtec hydraulic backstay tensioner. Solid vang rod kicker. Carbon fibre retractable bow sprit. Two reefs. Halyards renewed 2023. Main blocks replaced in 2012. 2 x Harken 44 self?tailing two-speed primary winches. 2 x Harken 32 self?tailing two-speed halyard winches. 32mm clear anodised jib T-tracks with towable cars. J Yachts J105, built in June 2000 BY J Boats Tillotson Pearson (France) to a Rod Johnstone design. GRP hull and deck with sandwich construction. Baltek end-grained balsa laminate construction using pre-impregnated and vacuum-bagged biaxial glass fabrics. White Gelcoat hull with blue waterline stripe. White GRP superstructure with grey painted (Kiwi grip) non-slip deck (repainted 2026). ORC 1.25 extruded toe rail on foredeck. GRP moulded main structural bulkhead, bonded fore and aft on hull and deck as support for chainplates. Solid fibreglass transverse keel support beams. Fabricated aluminium mast step with transverse beams fastened to main bulkhead. Lead and antimony fixed keel with bulb bolted to a deep moulded stub. Keel/hull joint fairing. Wheel steering to spade hung rudder (new bearings 2025). Self-draining aft cockpit.
