The Nelson 42 MKII is the commercial boat of choice for pilotage, surveying, crew transfer, and general patrol duties, Alert IV began life as a Customs patrol vessel and then became a coastal patrol vessel for Essex Police. In 2010 she was upgraded with two new Volvo Penta D9-425 commercially rated engines which have less than 4000hrs logged and is only now being retired from service as a higher-speed replacement more suited to modern tactical duties is on order. This represents a great opportunity to acquire a well-maintained Nelson 42 MkII which has benefitted from lighter duties than many in her class and could easily be adapted for a wide range of tasks, or even converted for go-anywhere leisure use! Construction 'Alert IV' (originally 'Lynx') was built by Halmatic to a custom commercial specification as a coastal patrol vessel, commissioned in 1995 and first launched in July 1996. Grey GRP hull with GRP-encapsulated foam framing, superstructure, and decks. Watertight bulkheads. Heavy duty D fendering. In 2008 the hull from the waterline down was professionally taken back to gelcoat and epoxy coated. Since this date she has been regularly ashore for annual maintenance and appears to be in good general order but is now in need of some remedial works such as resealing windows and refitting to suit her next owner's requirements.
