Stella Munter is Stella No. 65, a Kim Holman-designed Stella built by Rowhedge. Unlike many of the Stellas currently being offered through the Stella Class Association, Munter has been the subject of an extensive restoration by Suffolk Yacht Harbour and is being offered as a complete and finished yacht.

The final level of specification can still be discussed and confirmed with the purchaser, providing an unusual opportunity to acquire a professionally restored Stella with some input into her final equipment and finish.

The Stella is a well-known East Coast design with an enthusiastic following and active Class Association. Traditionally constructed in mahogany planking on oak frames, these attractive classic yachts combine manageable dimensions with the character and appeal of a traditional wooden yacht.

Viewing at Suffolk Yacht Harbour is strongly recommended to appreciate the work undertaken and to discuss the final specification. Arrange this through the Suffolk office – 01473 659681 or email: suffolk@clarkeandcarter.co.uk

Accommodation

The traditional layout provides a forward cabin section with two pipe cot berths and an overhead hatch. Moving aft there is a marine sea toilet to starboard opposite a hanging locker. The main saloon features two full length settee berths, with a chart desk at the aft end of the starboard settee. Opposite to port is a small galley with a two-burner stove and a manual freshwater sink. The final specification, equipment and finish aboard Munter are to be confirmed with the purchaser.

Mechanical Systems

Diesel inboard engine. Shaft-drive to a two-bladed fixed propeller.

Sails and Spars

Fractional sloop rig with hollow spruce mast and wooden boom. Stainless steel standing rigging. Terylene running rigging. Spinnaker pole. 2x Sheet winches, 2x Halyard winches - Final specification can be confirmed by the purchaser.

Construction

Stella one-design cruiser racer designed by C.R. “Kim” Holman. Traditional clinker mahogany construction on oak frames with copper fastenings and a cast iron long keel. Larch deck beams with a plywood deck structure. Mahogany cockpit, coamings and floorboards.

History of the Stella Class

Designed by renowned East Coast yacht designer Kim Holman, the Stella emerged at the end of the 1950s as a capable wooden cruiser-racer with particularly strong associations with the East Coast. Construction was undertaken by a number of yards, including Tucker Brown, Rowhedge Ironworks, Dan Webb & Feasey and Petticrows, resulting in a class that remains remarkably distinctive while showing individual differences between boats. Today the surviving Stellas are supported by an active Stella Class Association, helping to preserve the history of the class and encourage the continued sailing and restoration of these attractive classic yachts.
